VISA APPLICATION PROCESS



Greetings from the Consulate of Uruguay in Manila and we welcome travelers who wish to enter Uruguay!

Kindly read the instructions below and comply with the requirements to avoid delays in your visa processing. The Consulate shall not process incomplete applications and forms with incomplete information.

Important:

ü  Please see to it that you have travel insurance in Uruguay. It is also advised that you do not pay yet for your flight tickets until the visa is authorized.

ü  Please refer to our COUNTRY MATRIX FOR VISA REQUIREMENT for information on who needs visa to enter Uruguay

ü  There are no expedite visas. Should the applicant wish to expedite his/ her visa for urgent reasons, it is recommended to contact the Direccion Nacional de Migracion (DNM) to inform them of the details of the trip.

Once the DNM notifies the Consulate to proceed, only then will the visa application be accepted for processing.

PROCEDURES

1.     Applicants must fill out all visa application forms digitally in English or Spanish:

A.     Official Visa Application Form

B.     SIGMA Form

And must scan and save all supporting documents in PDF format except for the passport sized photos.

General Requirements:

·       Scanned copy of passport’s bio-page valid for 6 months beyond arrival date in Uruguay

·       1 Passport sized photograph in white background (JPEG/PNG format)

·       Photocopy of Identity document of the reference person in Uruguay

·       Proof of hotel reservation or lodging accommodations

·       Flight Itinerary / Travel Itinerary

·       Police or NBI Clearance

·       Certificate of Employment indicating the Company name, nature of business, period of employment and position of the applicant

·       Bank Certificate / Statement

·       Letter or Request / Invitation Letter * Kindly refer to the requirements specified below

Visa Category and other specific requirements pursuant to Law N° 19.670, Law N° 18.250, Decree 356/2018, Decree 136/2018, Decree 394/2009 and Ministerial Resolution 549/2018, among other applicable norms:

I.       BUSINESS VISA: Period of stay is 90 days. Valid for 180 days from stamp date with Multiple Entries

·       Invitation Letter from the company, headquarters or public body in Uruguay that invites the applicant for the visa, with letterhead, signed by the responsible authority of the company. The letter must include the details of the person in charge of inviting the applicant.

 

II.     TOURIST VISA: Period of stay is 90 days. Valid for 180 days from stamp date with Multiple Entries

·       Letter of Request / Invitation Letter indicating the departure date, length of stay, activities involved and contact details of the inviter from Uruguay

 

III.    WORK VISA: Period of stay is 30 days. Valid for 60 days from stamp date with Single Entry.

 

Important:

ü  The applicant must then apply for residency in Uruguay from the date of entry into the country.

ü  Applicant should be above 18 years of age.

 

·       Letter of promise of work extended by the company or institution duly registered in Uruguay, in accordance with the national legislation in force. It must include the company’s data, information on business activity, registration numbers in DGI and BPS, as well as personal data and signature of the legal representative of the company.

 

IV.   STUDENT VISA: Period of stay is 30 days. Valid for 180 days from stamp date with Single Entry

ü  The applicant must then apply for residency in Uruguay from the date of entry into the country.

 

·       Proof of registration or note with letter of the institution or public or private educational center where the applicant will study, or have his/her internship. It must be signed by the legal representative of the institution and must contain the personal data of the representative, as well as the registration number or authorization of the Ministry of Education and Culture.

 

V.     FAMILY REUNIFICATION VISA: Period of stay is 30 days. Valid for 180 days from stamp date with Single Entry

·       Birth Certificate or Marriage Certificate (apostilled and translated in Spanish)

·       For minors under 18 years of age, authorization from their legal representatives to reside in Uruguay

 

VI.   HUMANITARIAN & EMERGENCY VISAS: Period of stay is 30 days. Valid for 60 days from stamp date with Single Entry

·       Document proving reliably the reason for which it is requested to enter the country, as required for each case (Medical Certificate, Death Certificate, etc.)

 

VII.  CONGRESS, CONVENTIONS & SEMINARS WITH NATIONAL OR INTERNATIONAL CHARACTER:

Period of stay is 90 days. Valid for 180 days from stamp date with Multiple Entries

·       Letter of Invitation from the Organization of the event. In case of institutions and private organizations, the letter must include a description of the institution and the event to be carried out and the registration or authorization number of the Ministry of Education and Culture. Similarly, it must include details of the institution or organization.

·       Document accrediting the public interest of the event

Please ensure that all letters are addressed to the Honorary Consul Marian Mariñas Ong.

 

3.     The Consular officer shall inform the applicant once the application has been uploaded to the visa system. It is also possible that the consular officer may require additional supporting documents and a personal interview.

 

4.     The applicant must wait for 6-7 weeks to receive the visa decision. The Consular officer will get back to the applicant after the aforementioned date to inform the status of his/her visa application. There is no need to follow up unless it is overdue.

Important: It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure the completeness and correctness of all information provided including the assurance that the reference person can avail himself/herself to calls or an interview should the DNM contact him/her. Failure to do so may result to delays in the process.

Similarly, the authorization / denial of visa is subject to the decision of the DNM in Uruguay. For this reason, an ample time is needed to review the visa application and arrive at a sound decision.

Subsequent to uploading the visa application into the system, the Consulate is limited to tasks such as:

ü  Informing the applicant to send additional documents upon request of the DNM;

ü  Advising the status of the applicant’s visa application

ü  Requesting an update on the status of the visa application

By no means is the Consulate held responsible for the delays in the process.

5.     Upon the authorization of the visa, the consular officer will contact the applicant to arrange an appointment to appear personally before the Consulate for the issuance of the visa.

In case of denial, the consular officer will inform the applicant by email and no consular fees shall be collected.

6.     On the day of the appointment, the applicant must:

ü  Deposit the exact amount of visa fee to the Consulate’s bank account. This shall be provided on the day of the appointment.

 

Important: Visa fee is USD 42.00 converted to PHP and is dependent on the current exchange rate used in the Consulate. Exact amount shall be provided prior to appointment.

 

ü  Bring the deposit slip to be submitted to the Consular officer or send a copy through the above mentioned email address.

ü  Present a copy of the paid flight tickets for verification.

 

7.     Congratulations! You have been authorized to enter Uruguay. Please refer to IMMIGRATION GUIDELINES PRIOR TO DEPARTURE to ensure a hassle free travel.



Additional Notes:

1.     No visa required for Chinese citizens (ordinary passports holders) who have a multiple entry United States, European Union, Schengen, Canada or United Kingdom visa (otherwise, it is necessary to apply for a visa).

2.     For Taiwanese Nationals, a Travel Certificate will be issued.

3.     From October 1, 2018, only those canine species older than 90 days with microchip individual identification (associated with international health certificate issued by the competent authority of the country of origin) can enter or exit Uruguay. The microchips must comply with ISO 11784 standard with HDX or FDX-B technologies compatible with 11785 card reader.
